I’m also a huge fan of the Walking Dead TV show and just about any gory horror flick. So, it’s no surprise that I love to see Zombie motifs in the craft beer scene.
But, I didn’t realize just how many Zombie brews were out there. Apparently it’s a thing. Tons of options for beer hunters like me. They also come in a variety of beer styles like IPAs, Pumpkin-flavored, Porters and Sours.
ZOMBIE BEERS TO CHECK OUT
Yeah. I knew about 3 Floyds Zombie Dust and Spring House Brewing Braaaiins! Both excellent beers that continue to gain in popularity. Here are a few others that I had never heard of before:
- B. Nektar – Zombie Killer (retired)
- Tallgrass – Zombie Monkie
- Catawba – White Zombie Ale
- Stone Liberty Station – Zombie Love Potion
- India Ale House – Zombie Apocalypse
- Cigar City – Brainzzz! Zombie-style Sour Ale
- 3 Stars – Zombie Date Night
SPECIAL EDITION ZOMBIE CANS
Some breweries, like Mispillion River Brewing, altered their beer cans for the Halloween season by making a zombie version of the artwork. Here’s their Black Tie IPA standard design on the left and the zombified bird and blood splatter on the right. Creepy fun!
ZOMBIE BEER FESTS
I’ve never been to a zombie craft beer festival before but after seeing some of the neat events put on this month, I am totally adding that to my to do list for next year. It’s an interesting twist to the status quo fests taking place throughout the year.
There was a zombie beer fest in Grand Rapids, Michigan this past weekend that had folks competing for best costume with 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes going to “undead winners.”
Martinez, California does a Zombie Brew Crawl where imbibers dressed in zombie costumes walk the streets in search of beer samples from 23 breweries that are set up in various businesses along the path. Although zombie costumes are optional, those who go all out also get a chance to win great prizes.
Which are your favorite zombie brews? I love Spring House Brewing Co. Braaaiins! which is a sweeter than usual pumpkin ale. Lots of classic pumpkin spice and a touch of marshmallow.
Bella the Beer Cat gravitated toward the 3 Floyds Zombie Dust when I set a bottle out on the table for a photo shoot. She has good taste!
Happy Halloween, everyone!
