So, I’ll be doing some beer and self exploration over the next 30 days in a little project I’m calling 30 beers for 30 years. Each day leading up to and including my 30th birthday on March 10th I’ll be trying a new beer and sharing my experience with all of you.
I started Thursday by heading to a local pub, McGraths, for a Nugget Nectar firkin with my girl Sam. Nugget isn’t new to me, but First Cut IPA is!
Tröegs new spring seasonal First Cut is a mango IPA and it’s awesome. The aroma hits you with hops and is inviting. The mango flavor is immediate followed by tropical, not bitter hop flavor. In fact, at no point while drinking it would I call this a bitter beer, the hops were masterfully selected to avoid those flavors. There’s a fruit sweetness present, but it’s not cloying, and the finish lingers for a comfortable amount of time. I could easily see this becoming a repeat drink for me, and at 6.2% ABV I’m not scared to do so.
