Once a year Triple C Brewing Co. releases the Chocolate Covered Pretzel Stout. This bottle release always seems to hit right around Valentine’s Day, and it is a perfect beer to share with loved ones and friends. Word starts to move around Charlotte about two weeks before the bottle release and the excitement grows. Triple C Brewing Co. always hosts well-organized events and everyone has a great time; Saturday was no exception. People packed into the tap room on a chilly day to grab bottle and snifter full of the stout. The tap room is dog friendly, so puppies in sweaters and coats came out as well. Frida (the Chihuahua) loves to go to Triple C to people watch and to meet all of the new puppies.
Triple C Brewing’s taproom is on the light rail trail in Charlotte and is an easy walk from the station. Just get off at the New Bern Station. The employees in the taproom are always so friendly and ready to help you make a perfect beer selection. I have always felt at home in the taproom. They recently upgraded the foosball table so if anyone wants a match let me know. Also I want to congratulate them on the GABF bronze medal for the 3C IPA- I love that this is in cans and I can take this camping or kayaking.
And now onto the beer!
Chocolate Covered Pretzel Stout (9.2% ABV) is a barrel-aged dark beauty that has been brewed with cocoa nibs, and just the right amount of salt. This stout pours opaque in color and has a small dark brown head. On the first sip you get that lovely roasted malt flavor, but my advice is to let the glass warm. What I really love about this beer is the fact the barrel aging is not overwhelming. It just leaves you feeling warm and ready for another sip.If you are looking for a booze bomb this is not the beer for you. As my glass warmed, that is where I found the vanilla, chocolate and the salt. This is a truly complex beer, yet one that everyone can and will enjoy.
I heard that the brewery has sold out of bottles, but a few bottles shops around the Charlotte area may have some left. If you can find this bottle do yourself a favor and grab one or two.
Triple C Brewing’s bottle release was great. I can’t wait to see what the future holds for this wonderful local brewery.
