Phoenix Festival Productions is proud to announce a new VIP craft-brewing event to complement the successful Pottstown Brew Fest – to be held Saturday, April 30, 2016 at Manatawny Park: The Pottstown Firkin Fest!
“The Pottstown Brew Fest proved to be one of the most successful events in the Pottstown area in 2015,” said Phoenix Festival Productions President Tim Hennessey. “There was such an overwhelming demand for additional high-quality craft beer experiences, we decided to offer an event to appeal exclusively to true craft brew enthusiasts featuring limited production, small-batch brews made and served in firkins.”
A firkin, which is derived from the Dutch word vierdekijn (meaning fourth), is actually a small barrel of beer that is one-fourth the size of a stand-full barrel of beer; as opposed to a standard beer barrel, which contains 30.96 gallons, a firkin full of cask ale will contain a volume of 10.79. The firkin is typically dedicated to housing “true ale” (i.e., cask-conditioned ale), or beer that has not been cold-filtered, pasteurized and carbonated by outside equipment. The yeast in the firkin naturally carbonates the beer resulting in a gentler level of carbonation, a rounder mouthfeel, and since it is unfiltered, usually shows a slightly more complex flavor and aromatic profile.
The Pottstown Firkin Fest will provide a VIP experience to a limited number of 500 guests. Unlike the Pottstown Brew Fest, which will offer 2,000 General Admission tickets, the Pottstown Firkin Fest will feature only VIP-level amenities like catered food, rare and unique beer. The Pottstown Firkin Fest joins the Pottstown Brew Fest (October 22, 2016), as part of Phoenix Festival Productions’ signature events. Both events benefit area non-profits. Tickets are on sale via the Pottstown Firkin Fest website (www.pottstownfirkin.com) and will be limited to 500 select attendees. Tickets are $75 and include 3 hours of unlimited sampling of 42 firkins from 24 regional and national breweries, catered food from Lily’s Grill and Heart Food Truck, live music, and collectible sampling glass.
