This week I had the opportunity to meet Dean and Mallory of Pierce Brewing Company, a new brewery slated to open later this year. Although their property in Wyomissing is still under construction, they’re still brewing up great beer to be ready.
Even though Pierce has only been brewing for a little over a year, he’s already well accomplished with a stack of gold medals for their beers. While visiting Halligan Homebrew, our not-so-secret meeting location, I got to sample 6 of those brews. The standouts for me were their Bourbon Barrel Imperial Stout (what a shock) and Spring Fling their Belgian IPA. What’s truly going to set them apart from the rest of our local breweries is how they give back to the community.
Dean shared with me about the passing of his mother, Patty, recently due to lung cancer and how he wanted to give back to try to find a cure. Patty’s Pub Irish Stout (which is delicious) will be one of their standard year-round beers with $1 per sale of the beer being donated to cancer research.
So where can you taste their beers? They’re working on some charity events around Elizabethtown that we’ll share with you as soon as we have info, but you can also expect to find them at Philly Beer Week this year as part of the extreme homebrewing event.
My official thoughts: keep this name in mind folks because this definitely won’t be the last you hear of them. Dean is putting out a great product that will certainly take their area by storm! Make sure to follow them on Twitter (@PierceBrewCo) and ‘Like’ their Facebook page.
