New Beer Alert: Oddwood Ales Saison

New Beer Alert: Oddwood Ales SaisonThe first beer from Oddwood Ales, a side project of Adelbert’s Brewery‘s head brewer Taylor Ziebart, has released, and it is awesome. The project will focus on producing small batches of barrel influenced wild ales. {Read our review of Triple B and The Traveler from Adelbert’s Brewery here}

Saison, the first in the series, is a tart Belgian farmhouse ale fermented entirely in oak wine barrels for 6 months and then bottle conditioned for another month. After getting the chance to delightfully enjoy a bottle of this brew I picked up tart fruit flavors up front, a well-balanced smooth yet a little bubbly mouthfeel, and a dry finish with hints of oak. This beer would be perfectly paired with light cheeses, salad (especially with Mandarin oranges), and even sushi. Trust me, this beer isn’t fakin the funk – it’s a great stylistic representation of what an awesome saison should be. Tart and funky but not puckering, light in body but not thin, bright yellow to golden in color, with a tiny hint of sweet.

“This beer has been over a year in the making and I am very happy with the results. Saisons are my favorite beer style to both brew and drink, so it’s very exciting for me to share my interpretation,” says Taylor.

Oddwood’s Saison will begin shipping in Austin and Dallas on November 21 followed by Houston and San Antonio distribution the following week. Saison is only available in Texas for the time being and will be sold alongside Adelbert’s Belgian-style ales.
