It’s Baaaaaack!
The sixth installation of the highly praised and well attended, Meeting of the Malts is slated for March 30th (Thur) from 6-11pm. If you’ve never taken part in the event, you can expect great beer, great food, tons of networking and an insider look at industry trends and predictions.

Dick Yuengling (D. G. Yuengling & Son), Jim Koch (Samuel Adams), Eric Wallace (Colorado’s Left Hand Brewing Co.) and David Walker (California’s Firestone Walker Brewing Co.) headline this night of craft beer industry discussion and brew exploration.

“Now in its sixth year, Meeting of the Malts has grown exponentially with over 500 attendees last year,”
said Dan LaBert, Executive Director of the Brewers of Pennsylvania. “When you couple this year’s number of expected attendees with such a distinguished list of panelists from throughout the country, it’s clear that Meeting of the Malts has become one of the leading events in our industry.”

ArtsQuest Center at SteelStacks

Artsquest Center at SteelStacks
711 First St., Bethlehem PA 18015

One of the coolest places to host the event. The walls of glass give you a front row seat to the massive steel mill relic that looks like something right out of a Tim Burton movie. Once the sun sets, the iconic structure is lit with cycling colors of reds, blues, greens and yellows. Not to mention the blown glass works of art in the stairwells of the Artquest Center.

PRO-TIP: Be safe! Book a room at the Sands Casino Resort within walking distance to the Artquest Center. So glad I did in the past. You will have plenty of alcoholic beverages during the evening. Do not. I repeat. Do not even think of driving after this event.

Panel Discussion
6 – 7 pm

Bump Williams from the Brewers Association will emcee the discussion with Dick, Jim, Eric and David. I highly recommend you audio record the session. So many gems of info that you’ll want to relive well after the evening is over. Plus, who wants to scribble down what you learned on a piece of paper. Be present in the moment and just relax and take it all in. A special collaboration draft will be served to each attendee. Sweet!

Dick Yuengling and Jim Koch are veterans of this yearly event. New-comers Eric Wallace and David Walker will make great additions to the group discussion.

David is co-founder of California’s Firestone Walker Brewing Co which is one of two brewers in the world to maintain a variation of the commercial-sized Burton Union system, a system of fermentation in oaken barrels. Firestone Walker is California’s fourth-largest craft brewery, and was the World Beer Cup Champion Brewery for mid-sized breweries in 2004, 2006, 2010 and 2012.

“It is quite an honor to be sharing this grand evening with these accomplished brewers,” said David Walker. “It should make for great conversation.”

Eric is president of Left Hand Brewing Co, now in its 23rd year of business and is one of the most honored and recognized breweries in Colorado, with over 28 Great American Beer Festival medals, 11 World Beer Cup awards and 9 European Beer Star awards.

“I’m honored to be asked to be a part of the Meeting of the Malts to talk about, and drink, beer,” said Eric Wallace. “I’m happy to help my friends, the Brewers of Pennsylvania, in their mission to protect the brewing industry in the state and encourage brand diversity in the market.”

The 4 Course Beer Dinner
7 – 9:30 pm

Each course will be paired with a brew from: D.G. Yuengling & Son, Samuel AdamsLeft Hand Brewing and Firestone Walker.

PRO-TIP: You will get a ton of glassware to take home. Like full size pint glasses. I wished I had brought a bag just to carry these back to my hotel room.

Beer Silent Auction
There’s even a silent auction where you can bid on collectible items from a variety of breweries including autographed, one-of-a kind items from this country’s finest Breweries. Last year, I scored a copy of ‘Beyond the Pale: The Story of Sierra Nevada” signed by Ken Grossman himself.

Chelsie & Tierney with Ken Grossman
That time when Tierney and I met Ken Grossman at Meeting of the Malts V in 2016.

Oh yeah… and I got to talk with him briefly. Yep. I love how the panel celebs make themselves available throughout the evening to chat and enjoy some brews.
